I wish I had the time or inclination to describe just how devastated we are to have had to park, pretty permanently - a truck sold to us by Basic Auto, that ended up being a complete nightmare. Three weeks after buying the truck (and everyone was just lovely during the actual transaction), the turbo failed AND two sets of brakes, on the same trip. Back to Basic it went, only to have to argue about what they would or wouldn't fix, for us. We ended up with a discount, but still a several-hundred dollar repair. A few weeks later, we lost power going up a hill (admittedly pulling a camper but we are talking about a Ford 250 Super Duty Diesel, made to do this stuff) and this time put the truck in the local Ford Dealership in Luray. They couldn't find the problem and $400 later plus a $200 towing bill, we continued to drive with our fingers crossed. We upgraded the turbo, replaced the brakes, and then suffered not one but two more break-downs - culminating in the final one, in Surry, in November. We heard a vibration, pulled off the road, and had the truck towed to True Diesel, to find that something had "come loose" in the motor, and put metal throughout, rendering it useless, blown, defunct, toast. After $5130 worth of towing bills and repairs combined, we were unable to pay another $8K - $15K to have a new motor put in it, and so it has become a yard decoration, after only 5 months of ownership. To make matters worse, we financed the truck through Basic Auto and so took out a $15K loan, with a repayment of $423 a month, which KILLS me to have to make, every month, for NOTHING. We have no truck, a huge loan, $5000 worth of repairs already, and face another $10K + to make it road-worthy again. On top of that, I have emailed. I have called. I have facebooked. I have politely asked for a reply. Evidently after spending $17K with this dealership (our 2nd purchase, I might add), we are undeserving of even the courtesy of a response. Kory Hummer was as kind as could be when we bought the truck, and is now entirely unavailable - as so many other people have said in both Facebook and Google reviews. I am not asking for recourse - I know we bought a used truck. We own that. They sold us a bad one, and I am simply asking them to do the same - call with advice, information, options, anything - but they disappear under a rock when things do not go well, and according to much research I have done, things OFTEN don't go well it seems. We are not the first, we won't be the last, but I can at least have my say. Customer Service is everything. And perhaps just as important when things go wrong, as when things go right. If not more so....... I will continue to spread the word in the hope that the next person to stride up to one of their sales people with high hopes of a great deal - realizes that when things look to good to be true, they so often are.
I would give a zero star rating if possible. To keep it short. ..do not do business with these liars. They do not fix any issue ...let's just say they put us back into a van that kept shutting off mid drive that could have caused an accident, injuries or death to me and my children. No remorse for knowing they were not fixing the issue but clearly fine with taking a deductible payment everytime we tried to bring the van in. Rude, very money hungry liars every one of them. They even tried stealing the van from another auto dealership that actually fixed the issue. I had the other dealerships manager call me to verify and I'm grateful they knew better.
I am returning now to write my second negative review for the same shop on the same vehicle. First it was that the car had been in a major accident unreported to car fax and neither acknowledged by nor addressed by Basic Auto post sale but now on the same vehicle the electrical relay system has completely fried and has to be serviced by the manufacturer. The car is from 2011 and I have owned it exactly 11 months. This is unbelievable that such a major component should breakdown so soon. Thoroughly disappointed by the car and the company.
Not only did I purchase a vehicle from Basic Auto Sales, I also took a position in the sales department. After 3+ years I am now the Finance Manager and extremely happy to be working for a company that cares about the customer as well as the community and employees.
Just purchased a 2012 Volvo, everyone was very helpful, sales staff addressed every question we had. Had a couple of details that needed addressing they were taken care of without question. Financing was arranged without issue. Overall a very positive experience. Would not hesitate to go there again.
